P90X

It's been over two years since I've utilized this wonderful tool we call a BLOG. My purpose of reinstating the blog is because John and I have made a personal fitness goal. My hope is that I can document each move I make in reference to this goal... Lets get started! Tony Horton drives me crazy! He calls me a kid and a "girl" during my workouts. "Let's check on the kiddies" is one of his favorite lines. But truth be told, he's a genius! Last time I utilized his fitness program I lost 15 pounds and dropped 2 dress sizes! For the next 90 days, John and I will be making our go at his newest routine--P90X. 5am this morning and my alarm went off. John rolled over and growled--he's starting next week due to work conflicts. I sprang into action after a full night of only bits of rest that seemed to cycle with glimpses of me completely screwing up my new routine. Hah! I hadn't even started yet, and my mind was already deceiving me. Not this time you sneaky brain!! I will succeed--I've already decided that :o) My workout wasn't so bad at the time. After 55 minutes of a full chest/back routine I ran upstairs for my egg-white omlet-YUMM-O (do you feel the Rachel Ray in me)!! It was lovely; mushrooms, tomato, green onions mmm mmm mmm... Then it was off for a quick shower. While in the shower, I started to notice that my arms were shaking everytime I went to wash or rinse my hair. It's quite obvious where this is leading. Tomorrow I will be hurting. But for now, things are well. Still full from breakfast; alert; waiting for a carb-craving. Oh yeah, did I mention that it's a low-carb diet for the first 30-days?!? We'll see just how addicted to processed food I really am. Stay tuned...

Spring Has Sprung!

This afternoon, on the usually predictable half-hour ride back to Capo, I was enjoying the wonderful sounds of Tom Petty on my ipod when I noticed an entire row of trees that had bloomed. The trees are along side of the highway that we take every morning and afternoon, but they hadn’t blossomed this morning. They were a beautiful white with a hue of pink It’s very refreshing to be reminded that the world continues turning while we’re stuck in our day-to-day activities…

Here’s a riddle/anecdote for you in order to figure out where my travels will take me next: Each time my supervisor visits this city she passes by the resting place of Raphael and places a flower at his tomb…

Any guesses?

Here's a picture of the view from my balcony...that's Mt. Vesuvius.

Buon Carnevale!

I realize that Carnival (Mardi Gras) was yesterday, but I was so tired after work that I went home and passed out. I want to tell you about the amazing experience, generously provided by Naples Elementary School, I had yesterday.

In Italia, Carnival (Carnevale-Italian spelling) is a huge event. Other student teachers, friends of mine, went to Venice this past weekend to celebrate. Their pictures and stories are amazing. Everyone dresses up in masks and parties in the streets. This tradition is nation-wide.

The tradition even seeped into Naples Elementary School :o) I didn't want to put the pictures of the kids on the internet, but I have to say they are adorable. Everyone dresses up, and throws confetti around the school--even the administrators get into it! The Assistant Principal found it hilarious to dump a HUGE handful of confetti all over me--I was digging confetti out of my hair, my clothes and other more personal areas all evening.

My first experience of Italian tradition (although it was only at NES) was amazing!

Europe

Well, I've arrived. I'm sitting in the Munich airport waiting for my connecting flight. I didn't realize exactly how lost I would feel. People keep looking at me funny. You know, that look that screams, "haha...goofy American!" Yes, I realize I look like a complete idiot right now...I've been awake for 24 hours, and am running very low on fuel, but that is no reason to judge ;o)

But seriously, it's sort of fun. There's this cute older couple that has been with me since Chicago. They're sitting here at this bar next to me having a coffee. They're heading to Austria to visit family. Turns out they're from Wisconsin!

I'm hungry. I think I'm going to break-out one of my PBJ sannies.

Departure...

I'm sitting at my parent's place getting all packed-up and ready to go. I've gone through some major life-changes this last week with moving away from KC, my grandfather passing away, and now preparing for my trip to Naples. So many of these changes have been so sudden, though I've been mentally preparing for them for awhile, now.

I decided, instead of accepting the rapid changes as just another page in my book of life, that I would now be the instigator of change...

Instigation number one...my hair :o)  I hope you all like it...

The Opposite Sex...

To some of you, what I'm about to say may be a bit of a shock, but here it goes:  I haven't been on a date in over two and a half years. Sad, I know. Ok, ok...it may not be much of a shock to anyone. I haven't taken a huge interest in the opposite sex since I started Grad-school almost two years ago. On the other hand, I'm a reasonably attractive woman who is somewhat intelligent, and enjoys many different activities. You'd think someone would ask me out.

My close friends and relatives tell me that I probably scare guys away. What, with my beauty, and brains, and high-pitched squeal I call a laugh? Yeah right! Over the last few weeks I have begun analyzing the situation. Here's what I've come up with, so far:

1.)  I'm picky. So shoot me! I want a guy that has: a.) a job (or some means of income without part-taking in illegal activities), b.) a sense of humor that doesn't employ derogatory phrases , c.) a sense of self,  d.) a sense of the world they live in...I think that's basically it. Is that so bad?!

Just because I'm picky shouldn't be a reason guys don't ask me out, though.

2.) I must send off a bad vibe. Guys, you know the vibe. It basically comes off as looking like she's taken, so she doesn't care either way.

But I'm not! Laid-back, yes...impartial, no. So why the front?

3.) No front. I'm shy. I can hear the jaws dropping on the key-boards now..."Maggie...SHY?!?!" I know it sounds crazy, but it's the honest-to-God truth. I am absolutely frightened of the man I described above.

There it folks, my reasoning for not having a date in the last two and a half years. Sad, pathetic, and gut-wrenchingly honest. Be gentle...

Half Way...

I've hit the half-way point in my time here in Kansas City. It's been a blast!

This last week I celebrated my 24th birthday. The weekend before Bird and Big Raig took me out for a night on the town. We celebrated at a piano bar here in KC in the West Port area. It was so fun. Big Raig and a few friends threw in some money to get me on stage for my birthday. The piano guys had me sit on the piano while they sang a raunchy birthday song to the tune of Piano Man. After two verses I couldn't handle it anymore...ha! Overall it was a great night. I couldn't believe Bird and Big Raig's friends came out the way they did. I felt very blessed to spend a great night celebrating my birthday with new friends.

Tuesday night the girlies from work--all beautiful blondes--took me out for a drink. It was nice to see them outside of professional life. They are hilarious! I've known And-E for awhile now. We went to school at UNI together for four years, and hung out with some of the same crowd. The other two, J and M, are wonderful. They're a few years older than me. They seem to know the city pretty well, and they're always good for a dinner-night tip.

This Saturday, Trashley and All Good came out for the night. Again, we went to the piano bar. This time we celebrated Trashley's birthday. Good times...I wish J-Comp and LAEd could have made it, but I understand both situations...Five more weeks, LA :o)

Hello Kansas City!

Today was the day! I started my first internship at Mercy Children's Hospital in Kansas City...

I left my parents home yesterday around 10am. My mother, being the woman she is, insisted we switch cars for the duration. So, we did. I loaded my 'stuff' in the back of her tiny Toyota Corolla, and headed out. I've never stopped so many times on a road-trip in my life--five times! The usual casualities were suspect...potty, gas, potty, caffine. Finally, around 4pm I pulled into KC.

Big-Raig (I don't use real names) popped out of the house to help haul in my 'crap'. Then, it was off to find the clinic :o) Birdie took me way across town to where my internship will be. She then headed to a meeting, and I ventured back to the house by myself. I made it all of the way without using Birdies GPS--Go Mag!

This morning I arrived to the clinic a good half-hour early; totally in-character for most SLP's around the world. I introduced myself to my supervisor and her cronies at CMH-South. We only saw four clients today; just enough to get my feet wet. Tomorrow we have an eval scheduled. My supervisor, "It seems like you've had plenty of experience giving tests...you've got this." I had no idea what she meant. Turns out I get to administer all of the tests...wow! I hope they don't laugh...I hope I don't laugh.

Ok Uncle B, I hope this entry is more appealing to you. I tried to keep the complaints to a minimum; sorry about the random details, but I can't help it :o) For those of you who'd like to know...my uncle got on me at Christmas about how whiney my entries are. I'll try for a more upbeat attitude from now on :o)

XOXOXOXO
PS-I meant to post this Monday evening...sorry!

So here we are...the last day of school. JamFla and I dressed in our holiday-garb--hats 'n all! One more final to go, and we're done. Our futures couldn't be more different--just like the rest of the areas of our lives. but at this moment, we share each other's company giggling and commenting on the randomness that has been the last four years. Thanks for the memories :o)

Really?!

OK, so I was getting out of my car this evening to hop into work for five minutes and I had a complete "Maggie Moment." I was going to close my car door while singing Cop Stop by Gavin DeGraw at the top of my lungs (yes, I was in public at 4:25 pm in the Price Lab parking lot). It's a great song, though--it was at the rental car part :o) As it happened, my hand completely missed my door, but my wrist got it...GOOD! I stood there flapping my hand with an enormous smile plastered on my face to keep from saying a bad-word.

Yes folks, that's right, I'm a complete dum-dum. In fact, I definitely did some internal damage. It's getting increasingly more difficult to type as I'm writing this entry. Bugh...

So, here's to all of those people who find themselves constantly having "(Insert name here) Moments." You're not alone :o)

Cheers!
